FAQ

Reservation Policies

  1. Electricity questions: There is no grid power on the beach in Tulum. La Zebra has invested in its own 24 hour power generation system using wind turbine technology and low emission generators. Each room has fans, but no air-conditioning. Also, hair dryers consume too much power and cannot be used.
  2. Internet access: La Zebra has wireless internet access available from the rooms and the restaurant area.
  3. Insects and bugs: La Zebra is on the beach and surrounded by thousands of acres of pristine jungle and lagoon wetlands. As a result there are all the usual bugs and insects you would expect. Usually the wind blowing off the sea keeps the mosquitoes away, but at dusk they can be a nuisance. We recommend that guests bring insect repellent they like. All the rooms have large mosquito nets with fans inside them to make it comfortable to sleep.
  4. Climate: In the summer months it can get hot. Perfect for sitting in the shade of a palm tree and sipping a fresh lemonade. With the sea breezes and lots of swimming most guests are fine. It is not as hot as Florida (say Miami), but if you do not like the heat then better to wait until the cooler months.
  5. Water safety: We only supply bottled water to drink or brush your teeth with. You cannot drink the water that comes from the wells in Tulum.
  6. Special diets: The restaurant can try to accommodate special dietary needs. We have refrigerators and freezers in the kitchen that can be used for keeping special foods or liquids fresh. Please let us know well in advance of any special needs so that we can try to accommodate you.
  7. The rooms: Our rooms reflect the essence of why people love to visit Tulum. However, if you are looking for typical concrete block hotel construction with air-conditioning and in-room television, then you may not enjoy Tulum and La Zebra. Playa del Carmen and Cancun have resorts with these types of amenities.
  8. Sunday night Salsa parties at La Zebra: Every Sunday night we have a live Salsa band and party. The band starts at 8pm, and finishes at 11pm. Guests are all gone from the premises by 12am. It is a lot of fun, but it is noisy in the rooms until the band stops. If you want only tranquility on your vacation, then avoid Sunday nights when making your reservations.
  9. Are clothes optional on your property? Many of our guests discretely sun bathe and swim in some state of undress. We are fine with this, as long as it is discrete. The beach is long and deserted to the south of us, and so guests who really want to go naked all the time tend to wander down the beach a bit.
  10. Kite-boarding: Tulum is a good place to learn kite-boarding. We can arrange lessons for you a few hundred yards down the beach from La Zebra.
  11. Children at La Zebra: We welcome families at La Zebra. However most of our rooms have King beds in them, more suitable for couples. The Master suite and Owners suite can accommodate a family with children. Rooms 8 & 9 have 2 full size beds each. We also manage a beach house 2 miles down the road which is perfect for families, or for truly romantic getaways!
