Frequently Asked Questions:
Electricity quest: There is no grid power on the beach in Tulum. La Zebra has invested in its own 24 hour power generation system using wind turbine technology and low emission generators. Each room has fans, but no air-conditioning. Also, hair dryers consume too much power and cannot be used. Our rooms have outlets which can be used for charging cameras, cell phones and computers.
Internet access: La Zebra has wireless internet access available from the restaurant area.
Insects and bugs: La Zebra is on the beach and surrounded by thousands of acres of pristine jungle and lagoon wetlands. As a result there are all the usual bugs and insects you would expect. Usually the wind blowing off the sea keeps the mosquitoes away, but at dusk they can be a nuisance. We recommend that guests bring insect repellent they like. All the rooms have large mosquito nets with fans inside them to make it comfortable to sleep.
Climate: In the summer months it can get hot. Perfect for sitting in the shade of a palm tree and sipping a fresh lemonade. With the sea breezes and lots of swimming most guests are fine. It is not as hot as Florida (say Miami), but if you do not like the heat then better to wait until the cooler months.
Water safety: We only supply bottled water to drink or brush your teeth with. You cannot drink the water that comes from the wells in Tulum.
Special diets: The restaurant can try to accommodate special dietary needs. We have refrigerators and freezers in the kitchen that can be used for keeping special foods or liquids fresh. Please let us know well in advance of any special needs so that we can try to accommodate you.
The rooms: Our rooms reflect the essence of why people love to visit Tulum. However, if you are looking for typical concrete block hotel construction with air-conditioning and in-room television, then you may not enjoy Tulum and La Zebra. Playa del Carmen and Cancun have resorts with these types of amenities.
Sunday night Salsa parties at La Zebra: Every Sunday night we have a live Salsa band and party. The band starts at 8pm, and finishes at 11pm. Guests are all gone from the premises by 12am. It is a lot of fun, but it is noisy in the rooms until the band stops. If you want only tranquility on your vacation, then avoid Sunday nights when making your reservation.
Are clothes optional on your property? Many of our guests discretely sun bathe and swim in some state of undress. We are fine with this, as long as it is discrete. The beach is long and deserted to the south of us, and so guests who really want to go naked all the time tend to wander down the beach a bit.
Kite-boarding: Tulum is a good place to learn kite-boarding. We can arrange lessons for you a few hundred yards down the beach from La Zebra.
Pets: No pets are permitted at the hotel.
Children at La Zebra:We welcome families at La Zebra. However most of our rooms have King beds in them, more suitable for couples. The Beachfront Master Suite, the Luxury Beach Shack, Jungle Canopy, and Beachfront Owners Suite can accommodate a family with children. Also, our Beachside Cabanas Garden View with 2 Double Beds will suit families comfortably.
Airport Transfers: We collaborate with a reliable company that offers private pick-ups from the airport and will deliver you directly to Mezzanine. You can add this to your reservation in extra services. The cost is $90 USD for 1-2 passengers one way.
Travel Insurance: Please take out Travel Insurance to cover you against unforeseen events, including cancellation due to hurricanes.
Room Rates: Our room rates are not inclusive of tax which is 14%.
Hotel Balance Due: Your hotel balance will be due upon arrival.
Check in time is 3pm: We will do our best to have your room ready as early as possible. We can store your luggage until your room is ready for check-in if necessary. Please let us know when you think you will be arriving at the hotel so we can anticipate your check-in time. The reception is located next to the restaurant and is open from 8 am until 11 pm. If you will be arriving later than 11pm we will leave the key with the night watchman. Check out time is 11am.

Directions: The highway from Cancun airport is the 307. It is a wide, 2 lane highway all the way south to Tulum. When you enter the town of Tulum you will come to a four-way set of traffic lights with a large supermarket called San Francisco on your right. At these lights turn left and head east towards the beach road (the sign says To Boca Paila). You will reach a T-intersection with a little police casita on your left. Turn right and head south for approximately 6 km. La Zebra has a big sign on the left side of the road. You can ask just about anyone where La Zebra is and they can tell you.
